A GLIMPSE on MPS HISTORY

The Maragondon Parochial School, Inc., formerly known as the Assumption Convent School, was founded in 1986 by Rev. Fr. Corsie S. Legaspi who was the parish priest of the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.

The school, in her first year of existence, S.Y. 1986 –1987, was only offering Pre-School Level and was under the guidance and supervision of a Dominican Sister, Sister Juanita del Monte, who acted as the president and directress of the school.

Since Sister Juanita del Monte belongs to a Dominican Congregation, our uniforms were based on the uniforms of the Dominican School in San Juan, Manila.

Later on, the name Assumption Convent School was changed to Maragondon Parochial School on June 24, 1987. After then, the parish priest of the same time, took the responsibilities as the director of the school. 

In the years 1989-1992, MPS was under the supervision of Rev. Fr. Paul D. de Leon as the principal and director as well. In his time, he hired Miss Irinea A. Arañas as the  school  consultant  until the time he left for his new parish assignment on January, 1992.

The first batch of elementary graduates composed of 13 boys and 10 girls was born on March, 1993.

For about five years, Rev. Fr. Luisito C. Gatdula handled the school from the year 1992 – 1997. He appointed Ms. Irinea A. Arañas as the school principal.

Ms. Irinea A. Arañas wrote a poem and Mr. Norberto Pineda arranged the lyrics and gave music and melody to it which later on became our MPS March/MPS Song.

On July 29, 1997, Rev. Fr. Leoben O. Peregrino took the directorship position when Rev. Fr. Luisito C. Gatdula left for his new parish assignment. He reinstated Ms. Irinea  A. Arañas  as the school  principal up to School  Year 2000 - 2001.

When Miss Irinea A. Arañas retired from her position on March, 2001, Rev. Fr. Leoben O. Peregrino appointed Miss Justina C.  Esguerra as the Academic Coordinator; Mrs. Marilou B. Casama  as the  Guidance Counselor, and Ms. Demetria  A. Dimayacyac  as the School  Registrar.

When Rev. Fr. Leoben O. Peregrino left for his new parish assignment on September 21, 2002, Rev. Fr. Antonio J. Laureta acted as the  chool administrator up to May, 2003.

Beginning school year 2003-2004, Rev Fr. Ariel A. Delos Reyes became the director/ administrator of the Maragondon Parochial School, Inc. In the school year 2008-2009, he appointed Ms. Demetria A. Dimayacyac as the new school principal.

At the time Rev. Fr. Ariel Delos Reyes was assigned to a new parish on May 29, 2009, the new school director/administrator came in the person of Rev. Fr. Lino N. de Castro. He supervised and managed the school from school year 2009-2010 up school year  2015-2016.

Rev. Fr. Jerry C. Belen took over the position of Rev Fr. Lino N. de Castro as the director of MPS in the school year 2016-2017 when Rev. Fr. Lino de Castro left for his new parish assignment  at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in San Manuel 2, Dasmariñas City.

Maragondon Parochial School, Inc.  in her existence has produced 27 batches of graduates from SY 1992-1993 up to SY 2018-2019.

Rev Fr. Jerry C. Belen’s appointment as the school director of MPS expires on April 30, 2019 (end of SY 2018-2019).

For the second time, Rev Fr. Ariel A. Delos Reyes has been appointed again as the director of Maragondon Parochial School, Inc. starting May 1, 2019.He will then be the MPS’ school director for three (3) consecutive years (from S.Y. 2019-2020 up to  S.Y. 2021-2022.)

After the second term of Rev. Fr. Ariel A. Delos Reyes has come to an end as the school director, Rev. Fr. Jerry C. Belen took over his position for the second time as the director of MPS thru his appointment signed by Most Rev. Bishop Reynaldo G. Evangelista, DD, effective June 1, 2021 until May 31, 2024.
